Related to the discussion on Lincoln’s beard, the National Museum of American History just published a set of activities about the girl (Grace Bedell) who wrote to Lincoln. They are all centered around a reading a historical fiction book and then doing hands-on activities. They’re designed for K-4 parents, teachers, and afterschool educators. You can find them here: http://americanhistory.si.edu/ourstoryinhistory/tryathome/lincolnletter.html.

Also, you can find a scan of the letter from Grace and its transcript at the Detroit Public Library:

Don’t miss the great envelope, or “cover,” with Abraham Lincoln on it!
